We are currently developing two Critters games; a board game and a card game.  This page is just to keep track of progress, but nothing is set in stone.  (If you’d like to be kept informed on progress, sign up below, and we’ll let you know as we develop functionality.)

The idea of the game is to collect sets.  A set is four cards with an identical design, but with different coloring. Once you have a set, you exchange it for a master set card, and the first player with four (4) master set cards wins the game.  You may also complete a set using a wild card, of which there are two.

Players start with seven (7) cards.  Each turn, you draw one card, either from the discard pile or from the deck.  You then discard a card you don’t want.

MASTER CARDS

There are two ways to collect Master Cards.  The first way is to complete a set of 4 of the same image; colors don’t matter.  The second way is to land on a square that has the same image as a card in your hand, but not the same color combination, and you then draw an extra card from the deck.  If you have the exact match card, you exchange your card for a Master card. (Master cards don’t have to match the set you’ve been collecting.)

There are twenty-four (24) Master cards, which should be sufficient for any game.  The ideal number of players is from 2 – 6

DECK CARDS

The idea of the game is to collect sets.  A set is four cards of the same design, but all with different colorings.  There are 12 sets.  Each set is clearly labelled with the set # so you don’t have to struggle to recognize them by their image.  At the beginning of the game, each player is dealt seven cards.  Cards are drawn from the deck, or picked up from the discard pile (face-up).

In the board game, dice are rolled to move the player around the board.  If a player lands on a Critters square, which are also labelled with the Set # that they are from, and he/she has a card from that set, they draw an extra card from the top of the deck.  If they have the exact match, they exchange their card for a Master Card, and are one step closer to winning the game by being the first player to get four master Cards.

ACTION CARDS

There are six (6) Steal cards.  These are either drawn by the player or may be dealt in the initial deal.

A player may use a Steal card at the beginning of their turn, before they draw a card.  To use it, they lay the card down in front of them and place a card from a set they are collecting alongside it.

Any player who has a card from that set must give that card to the stealer.

The Steal card is left on the table.

A player may only use, or hold, two Steal cards.  If they pick up or are holding/have used two cards, they must give the extra Steal card to the next player, who may use it immediately or hold it for later use.

Stealing can ruin a set that another player is collecting.  They can then discard other cards from that set,

See ‘Stop the Steal’ card

If you get this card, you roll the dice again immediately and move forward that number of spaces.  If that takes you to a square where you have that card, you lay the card on the square (underneath your piece) and get a master card.  That rule also applies when you are throwing the dice as part of your turn.

Any player who has a ‘Stop the Steal’ card may play it instead of giving up a card.  This means that all the cards that the Stealer has requested, go to the player who has used the Stop the Steal card.  This includes the card that the stealer was trying to steal.

There are only 2 Stop the Steal cards.  Once played, they are discarded but cannot be picked up by the next player. It may be drawn during the next round when all cards have been used and the discards shuffled.

If you see a card that has been discarded and you want to take it, you may play the Claim card to take that card, irrespective of whether the current player wanted it, but you have to play it quickly as once the card is inside the players hand, it is safe from being claimed.  The Claim card is then discarded but may not be picked up by the next player.  It may be drawn during the next round when all cards have been used and the discards shuffled.

BOARD SQUARES

Not every Set card has a corresponding card on the board.  (We haven’t designed the board yet, so we don’t know exactly how it will look or how many images there will be on it).

We'd love to hear any ideas, comments or suggestions. (if we use an idea you've suggested, you'll be entered into a drawing to win a copy of the finished game.)
This will help us know if we need to develop multiple language versions. TIA.

Everybody who signs up for this mailing list will be automatically entered into a draw to win a copy of the finished game.  We’re giving away twenty (20) sets, so there are lots of chances.
